Students get no marks increase in TET recheck

HYDERABAD: The state government has allegedly earned Rs 36 lakh by issuing photocopies of OMR answer sheets with fresh totalling of marks for candidates looking to reevaluate their Teacher Eligibility Test.
What’s worse is that none of the candidates managed to get even an additional mark, making it an exercise in futility. The first TET was conducted on July 2011 for which the school education department set up a cell to issue photocopies of OMR sheets to candidates for Rs 500, if they had any doubts over computing of marks. After the exam, 1,200 candidates applied for the OMR sheets but none of them managed to improve their results.


The only result is that the government coffers got richer by Rs 6 lakh. It was a similar story during the recent TET exam which was held on January 8, 2012 and the results declared on January 30.
With nearly 50 percent of candidates out of 4.50 lakh appeared failing to clear the exam, around 6,000 of them again applied for their OMR answer sheets.
The number of applicants increased as the state government came out with a DSC notification for recruitment to teacher posts on January 31.
As many of them had failed to clear the cut-off marks by one or two marks, they decided to take a chance and in the process become eligible for the DSC.
Take for example, M Venkanna, a BC candidate who got 73 marks out of 150 when the eligibility mark for BCs is 75. “I sought a copy of the OMR sheet with a fresh totaling of marks but my score did not increase. All my hopes of becoming a teacher are now dashed,” Venkanna said.
