Two Separate Tests for TET, DSC Irk Teacher Aspirants

Published: 06th November 2015 05:14 AM

HYDERABAD:The school education department’s recent proposal to conduct two separate tests for the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) and teacher recruitment test (DSC), has upset the teacher aspirants as the lengthy process for both tests is likely to delay the recruitment.

Teacher aspirants alleged that separation of TET from DSC exam is nothing but a deliberate attempt to delay the recruitment process. Thousands of aspirants who have been waiting for DSC notification are now furious over government’s plans to conduct two separate tests for TET and DSC.

Rajendra Prasad, a DSC aspirant from Hyderabad, said “Vacancies in every district have already been identified. We expected the notification to be issued by January. If TET is held before the DSC is announced, it would take much longer for  issuance of DSC notification.” He said all those who have been preparing would be affected if two tests are held for TET and DSC.

Apart from this, the syllabus for both the tests is also likely to be revised.  Krishna Nayak, a teacher aspirant from Medak district, said “To conduct two different tests, new syllabus must be prepared for both the tests. This will also affect our preparation.”

Though, the schedule for TET yet to be announced, sources in the school education department hinted that the test would be held in January. A proposal with the tentative schedule has already been sent to the state government, but it is yet to be approved. A list of vacant teaching posts in all districts was also prepared by the department.

However, the school education department advised the aspirants to wait till the official notification is issued. A senior official in the department said, “The proposal for separate exams is yet to be approved. Even if it is approved, there will not be any major changes in the syllabus.” He said TET is only a qualifying test and it would not have any impact on  DSC notification.

Separate Exams to be Conducted for TET and DSC

HYDERABAD: The dilemma over Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) and DSC recruitment test for teacher aspirants in the state  has finally come to an end, after the school education department has decided to conduct two separate exams for both. A detailed proposal with the tentative schedule for TET has already been sent to the state government and notification would be issued after its approval. DSC will be announced only after TET results are out.

Earlier, there was a proposal to conduct both TET and DSC together for recruitment of teachers. But, the proposal lacked clarity over the fate of those who have already qualified in the previous TET and are waiting for DSC notification. With the new proposal, it was made clear that only fresh candidates will have to take the TET  to appear for DSC.

Though the government has already prepared the list of vacant teaching posts in all the districts, the recruitment is unlikely to be done in this year.
Owing to the long process of TET exam, it would take at least six months to issue DSC notification, according to a senior official of the school education department.

Since the notification would be delayed for six more months, teacher aspirants and teacher associations are expecting more posts to be added to the list, as the senior teachers from several districts would retire soon.

It might also come down, if the government merges some of the schools where enrollment is far low.  School education director T Chiranjeevulu said, “The list of vacant posts for all the subjects has already been prepared, but it is too early to comment whether more posts would be added to the list when notification comes out.”

As per the available data with the school education department, currently there are around 10,961 vacant teacher posts in government schools in all the districts. The state government recently appointed Vidya Volunteers to fill the vacant posts. But, many of the schools lack teachers for subjects like mathematics, science and English.
